Dr. Tax Chairs African Union Peace and Security Council Meeting

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Dr. Stergomena  Tax chairs a 1142 session of the African Union AU Peace and Security Council  PSC ,held through a virtual technology. The  Minister who is the current chair of  AU PSC,  chaired the meeting from the Arusha International Conference Centre AICC.

During the session, Dr. Tax said the Council underscores the critical role of the panel of the Wise that includes  advising the council and chairperson of the Commission on all issues relating to the promotion and maintenance of peace, Security and stability, particularly on early warning and preventive diplomatic efforts on the continent.

The Peace and Security Council (PSC) is the standing decision-making organ of the AU for the prevention, management and resolution of conflicts. It is a collective security and early warning arrangement intended to facilitate timely and efficient responses to conflict and crisis situations in Africa.

The meeting, held at Ministerial Level and chaired by Dr Tax, provided a key platform for engagement between the AUPSC and the Panel of the Wise. The chairship of Tanzania in the council will run until  31st March 2023.

The meeting was conducted successfully due to the fact that AICC as a pioneer Centre for diplomatic engagements is well equipped to handle high profile meetings and events.
